The consortium of law firms participating in the Collective Initiative took another important step in defending the rights of individuals affected by the recent changes to the Portuguese Nationality Law, as well as by the delays and inefficiencies of AIMA.
A formal complaint was submitted to the Portuguese Ombudsman (Provedoria de Justiça de Portugal) on behalf of 1,260 applicants, requesting the Ombudsman's intervention, within the scope of its constitutional and statutory powers, to uphold justice, protect legitimate expectations, and safeguard the rights of those who relied on the commitments and legal framework established by the Portuguese State and who have been adversely affected by legislative changes and failures within the Public Administration.
This initiative represents another milestone in a broader joint effort that will continue to advance in defence of the rights and interests of those affected.
We now look forward to meeting with the Ombudsman and will continue to pursue the additional initiatives already underway, reaffirming our commitment to the protection of fundamental rights, legal certainty, and the legitimate expectations of all applicants.
