Professional Experience

Francisco de Mendonça Tavares is a solicitor with over 25 years’ experience in the areas of Corporate Law/M&A, Banking and Finance, and Property Law, combining his legal practice with an active role in the fields of venture capital, private equity and corporate governance.

He acts as an Of Counsel at PAXLEGAL.

He is a founding partner and director of a venture capital firm regulated by the CMVM, playing an active role in fund structuring, investor relations, and the origination and execution of investments.

Prior to joining PAXLEGAL, he worked at leading international and national law firms, having been a partner in various structures, including a firm with an international presence, whilst also maintaining a solo practice in recent years.

Alongside his legal practice, he has held key roles in the business and investment sectors, including participation in venture capital transactions and the holding of executive and non-executive directorships, as well as corporate governance roles in various business groups.

He has significant international experience in cross-border transactions, with a particular focus on Europe and African markets, notably Angola.

He has extensive experience in advising private clients, including family offices, with a special focus on wealth structuring and management and the reorganisation of family businesses. 

Academic Background

Law Degree from the Faculty of Law of the Portuguese Catholic University.
LL.M. in International Business Law from King’s College London.
Postgraduate qualification in Accounting and Finance from the Portuguese Catholic University.
