Rui Ferreira Antunes
Rui is a Partner at Paxlegal, focusing his practice on Criminal Law, Regulatory Offences and Compliance, with particular emphasis on economic and financial crime.
He holds a law degree from the University of Minho School of Law and attended the Postgraduate Course in Banking, Stock Exchange and Insurance Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra, as well as the Postgraduate Course in Criminal Law Sciences organised by the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto in partnership with the Porto Court of Appeal.
Throughout his career, he has advised and represented individual and corporate clients in criminal and regulatory offence proceedings, particularly in economic, financial and business matters. In this context, he has experience in large-scale proceedings of high complexity, size and public exposure.
Before joining Paxlegal, he was a Senior Associate at Antas da Cunha Ecija & Associados, where he was a member of the Criminal, Regulatory Offences and Compliance practice.
His work has been recognised by prestigious international directories: between 2023 and 2026 he was distinguished by Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in Portugal, in the Criminal Defense category. In 2024, he was also a finalist at the Iberian Lawyer Forty Under 40 Awards in the Lawyer of the Year: White Collar Crime category.
He is a Member of the Professional Section of the Disciplinary Board of the Portuguese Football Federation and a Board Member of the Braga Delegation of the Portuguese Bar Association.
He is also a member of the Association of Criminal Lawyers (Associação de Advogados Penalistas).
